SYNOPSIS

A major component of the Horizon Europe Work Programme for 2025, Africa Initiative III aims to deepen EU–Africa cooperation in research, innovation, and development.

Total budget: €500.5 million, spread across 24 targeted calls.


The program focuses on five priority areas namely; (i) Public Health, (ii) Green Transition, (iii) Innovation & Technology, (iv) Capacities for Science, and (v) Cross-cutting issues. 


A snapshot of notable calls includes:

  1. Development of antibodies for epidemic prevention

  2. Climate justice and societal readiness pilots

  3. Sustainable processing for battery-grade materials

  4. AU–EU collaboration on renewable energy

  5. Resilient coastal community solutions in the Atlantic

  6. AU–EU Agricultural Knowledge & Innovation System (AKIS)

  7. Agroecology living labs

  8. Nutrition interventions in emergencies (e.g., RUTF/RUSF)

  9. Open topics on disaster risk governance and resilience

  10. “GenAI for Africa”


Each call has a different deadline; the first stage is due in September for most of them.
